Perfumed and inviting from the first swirl - Royal Gala apple, lemon blossom, quince, and a creamy hint of custard rise effortlessly from the glass. It’s the kind of nose that draws you in without shouting. On the palate, it’s fleshy and full, with a mouth-coating texture that carries ripe apple, passionfruit, and a smooth layer of lemon curd. Rich but balanced - there’s weight here, but it never feels heavy. The finish is clean, fresh, and impressively long, leaving behind a trail of citrus and soft orchard fruit.
Chalari started in 2017 in a shed (like most legendary brands) in the Perth Hills from the hands of Alexi Christidis and two tonnes of premium Frankland River riesling.
Originally from the tech world, Alexi had a strong pull to winemaking and in 2017 received his Bachelor of Wine Sciences from the venerable Charles Sturt University. The following year he traveled around France to learn about various winemaking techniques and styles, and to do harvest in Champagne.
Chalari, Greek for ‘relaxed’, is indicative of Alexi’s approach to life and his winemaking style. Sourcing the best quality fruit from around Western Australia, Charlari produces a number of traditional and lo-fi wines. In 2020 and 2024, Alexi was a finalist for Top Winemaker for Young Gun of Wine Awards.
